This would've gotten 5 stars if the first unit wasn't defective. Runcam replaced the main board and its been fantastic ever since.
It's more susceptible to jello than most fpv camera's but soft mounting the camera and motors does the trick. This won't replace your gopro session but it's perfect for getting Hd footage out of light fast frames.
Overall this camera is an amazing innovation pushing this hobby in the right direction. Buy this camera!!

Good camera light weight, my 5inch is only 330g with 4s 1300mah battery strapped on. WDR working well, the color is sharp. I also own swift2 and i cannot feel the latency difference between them. Only down side is the wifi module, because my frame is blocking the module, i cannot plug it in, i urge runcam to make an extension cable and put it up for sale!

This is the only camera that will allow you to do HD in light 250g or less builds. This is now important due to regulations in many countries.
I have had some challenges feeding it 5V. You may need an additional BEC in your build. I would recommend to use a separate ESCs or something like the Asgard to avoid too many levels in your stack, depending on your frame.
The camera performs really well on stock settings for FPV. It has great low light performance. It may be even better in low light if you tune it (I have not). It is CMOS, but I get no jello effects.
The HD recordings are amazing. If you upload to youtube though, be prepared for some crap compression. There may be a way to improve this, but I am not aware of any at the moment.
All in all, I can only recommend this camera for micros with 3 or 4 inch propellers. Additionally, RunCam support is the best in the camera business, as far as my experience goes.
RunCam: now make a Split Micro for 2" inch, sub 120g builds and conquer the FPV world! :)

The quality of the FPV function is great. The ability to record at higher than FPV quality (for a few extra grams) is what I like most of this product.

I like the camera a lot but there will be always problem with the ribbon cables like mine the longer cable make vertical lines to the picture. Runcam promise to send new long ribbon cable to me if i order more stuff. Also wifi module should be intergrated to the pcb so no need extra space. Other functions i don't have any bad comment and i like the camera and with this price is great! I can recommend this camera to everybody.

Best Camera I have! I was hoping to be able to acquire the Runcam3 but was unable. I saw this and read some reviews and decided to give it a shot for my new FPV platform. The Picture quality is top notch with very low latency. I like that I know it is recording, by the visual indication on the screen. FOV is well above par. Would Highly recommend this to others.

I was on the fence on this cameras still. I really love it now that its up and running. Love being able to plug it straight in and manage the files, id sugg maybe better way for the wifi module and the only big issue was that their was not an integrated OSD. You can run one off the board but i feel its a little laggy at times. Other than that this is a great camera!!!!

Got the camera very fast. So far I amreally happy and footage looks great.
I uncliped the SD card holder by accident when I removed the SD card and then forgot to close the clip. I bent it flat against the board while closing the top of my drone. Got it back in place and all is well (so far). I love this camera.

I bought 2 of these. I immediately installed the first one in a GepRC Leopard and tested it that weekend- it performed great and the HD recording is very nice. The mount is very easy to use and it hooked up easily. I've heard debate about latency but I don't fly fast enough to notice.
When I opened the second one, I found that the ribbon from the camera was not connected to the board. I could not get the connection bracket to unlock so I could reconnect it. I am going to try some rubbing alcohol to remove the coating (don't know if that is what is keeping it from unlocking). That is the only issue I have with my experience.

I am amazed how easy it works. Easy setup and easy to use. The camera is the best cmos camera in the world. I will order some more

I thoroughly enjoyed my runcam split even though it only lasted me about a month. My first decent crash in the grass somehow messed up the ribbon connector so I replaced it with the extra long one included with the camera. Then, my first crash into a tree a stick jabbed the board and broke the three pin micro connector. Also the SD card started losing its connection almost immediately and I had to Jam a small piece of foam in to apply downward pressure on top of the card. Even with these faults I still think it's an awesome product just for the fact that you can get great HD footage in a 3 or 4 in build now without adding too much weight to your rig. I would buy another one for sure but I would definitely put it inside a quad with a canopy or carbon fiber side plates so as to protect the board.

This product marks the turning point for the fpv community. Brilliant idea, brilliant product but it can still use some modifications.
Hey RunCam, change the wifi module (odd setup), change the sd card slot (card can come loose in a crash), add different camera shell colors for customization, reinforce the ribbon cable wire (feels flimsy).

The Runcam Split is great. It is so nice to have HD video without mounting a Gopro and have FPV video that's super solid.
FPV: The colors are great, the WDR makes shadows not pitch black and light not washed out, and the latency is nearly unnoticeable. The picture is clear and the field of view is perfect.
HD: This rivals Gopro footage. The field of view isn't as nice as superview but the colors are better, and the 1080p60 footage is super smooth and clean.
One caveat with this camera is it has an AWFUL mic. Don't plan on using it, but who cares about the audio on a drone video, you're going to put in music anyway.
Another caveat is that the circuit board is very fragile and not shielded with any kind of shrink, so you might want to put electrical tape on both sides so it doesn't get shorted with anything else in your stack.
I highly recommend this camera. Even on builds that do allow for a dedicated HD camera, the weight savings the Split offers make this the ultimate choice for basically every build.

This is the best FPV camera I ever had on my racing quad, the quality of video is amazing! If someone would ask me what to buy, I would instantly say Runcam Split!!!

This is a perfect camera for what is built for.

I was happy to get my Split and try it out. I was impressed overall with the clarity and functions of this camera.
Pros:
1. Simultaneously use it for FPV and recording in HD
2. Much lighter than using separate fpv and hd cameras
3. Exceptional in low light
4. Can be ran off of your main battery or a separate battery
5. Circuit board has holes in it for mounting with the flight controller
6. Can be configured to operate through the flight controller
7. Did I mention you can't beat the price for what you're getting?
Cons:
1. Has no protection to prevent power feed back if it has power from battery and the USB is plugged in to transfer videos which could damage PC.
2. Ribbon cable that connects the camera to the board is fragile
3. The sd card locking mechanism sometimes pops open from an impact.
4. Has no protection from shock in an impact.
Recommendations:
1. Add a resistor to prevent feedback from battery voltage to USB port
2. Make insulation on ribbon cable slightly thicker to make it more durable
3. Sd card licking mechanism should be redesigned so that there's no chance of ejection in a crash
4. Add rubber grommets in the mounting holes to help resist shock from a crash- see how Raceflight and others have done their flight controllers
5. Possibly integrate a vtx in the system to take it to the next level
6. Do away with the 4.3 voltage for power because 5 volts is the most commonly used.
7. Possibly use epoxy on fragile components on the board to prevent breaking off in a crash.
Conclusion:
A economic alternative to using separate FPV and HD cameras with the bonus of weight savings. Ease of use with exceptional video quality especially in low light. Easily mountable with the flight controller. A great camera that is sure to satisfy for the mini quad enthusiast. Although there where a few issues and a little latency(you get used to it since it's very little) , the sd card licking mechanism and the power feedback, you won't be disappointed in this camera.

Yes, it looks like perfect camera if you do not doing some serious work. Fort that exact reason it perfect for me. As i destroyed my runcam 3 in couple of weeks. But issue i have is camera Just stops working in mid flight on my miniquad. Still thinking to buy another one, but scared...

I Recently purchased the RunCam Split and the video from the DVR is Very smooth and clear, I'm comparing flight video to my GoPro session and Loving it. Less "fish eye" effect on the recording as well. The FPV feed is also as clear, if not better, than my previous FPV camera (Lumeniere with GoPro lens) and the FPV latency has improved. For the price offered on the Split, it's a no-brainer to have dual functionality of FPV and HD flight recording without the added weight and wind resistance of a second camera. Easy to install, lightweight, and Well worth the money. You can't go wrong with this camera.

Excellent product, just be careful pitting an sd card in, I broke mine before I got to use it more than once.
Posted by Unknown on 26th Jul 2017
Very happy with my RunCam split after the couple weeks I've had it. The video quality is great. The SD Card slot, not so happy with..the full screen warning about a full SD Card might have been fixed...but any pressure on the card and it loses contact, you still get a full screen 'No SD Card' warning.. Wishing there was a little better documentation describing the bat+/- connector and its use, would love to be able to configure the location of the OSD elements as they're right on top of my IRC OSD for my Vortex 150..which can't be moved. The sticker on the board peeled back and took the top of the beeper with it, so now I have no beeper...over all tho, I love it!

I was pleasantly surprised the the quality of the Runcam Split - for me, it performed very well as both an FPV camera and an HD camera.
Even though it is a CMOS camera the latency and light processing was good - the image was nice and bright, and I could see plenty of detail in the goggles.
The HD footage was good too. At 1080p and 60 fps, it records smooth, jello free video even on a slightly noisy copter. If you can tune your copter very well, you will have super smooth video!

It a great FPV and HD camera in one. Removing the need to strap on a GoPro to the top of your drone, increasing the GC.

I liked everything about the Split except the micro card interface. I mounted the board in a stack with a Kiss AI1 and then cant open the door. The micro card should be a push and lock.

FPV cam with very small latency and FullHD 60fps cam in one. Great idea, awesome execution.

Two piece design provides many camera placement and mounting options especially when used with the longer cable between the camera and control board. Would like to have a remote connection and mounting option for control push buttons or (better yet) integrated WiFi. The current optional wifi board works well, but would be better if integrated into the main board. On my Runcam 2 and Runcam 3 I use the WiFi a lot, but with the Runcam Split I only use the WiFi for set up as leaving the add on WiFi during flight just doesn't work.

This is just like Runcam Hd3 cube, excellent WDR, good quality image. one downside is what when memory card is full it shows FULL screen msg. But hope that is easy fix with firmware upgrade! Also switching from regular FPV cam to Split, if you'r fast enough you'll see some frame skipping at start of flying, but after few seconds your eye will adjust it self.

Using this on a 249 gram UAV, low latency NTSC video and very good HD recording. Be nice if it had Mavlink OSD

Firstly this product is beautiful for the hobby. Easy to install, the cabling is flat and doesn't go in the way. After popping in the card and plugging it in, immediately started to record, beautiful quality at 60fps, not in the slightest disappointed by its primary function. So why only 4 stars? Well here's where I hope they will make v2 better. Firstly, the wifi module is great for being on the field without a laptop, but you can't use it because in no way is it possible to plug it in once installed. Secondly, once home I want to transfer my footage but to do so I have turn on my transmitter and off the video transmitter because the USB feeds power into the system, makes the buzzer scream and the vtx get hot. Please let the USB ONLY power the split module. Last of all, albeit not really preventable, the extra stack makes it very hard to make it fit into modern frames. All in all, a game changer, a beast of a product and definitely looking forward to v2 and it's improvements.

This is a really innovative camera system; it's comparable recording quality to my Mobius action camera. There are a few things that I feel should have been addressed however:
1. No reverse voltage protection. Other reviewers have said never plug in the micro-usb to the computer while the quad is powered because it will feed power back through the usb 5v line (potentially damaging the computer). This is fixed by simply installing a diode, which I wish was already done in the design.
2. The mounting bracket (I'm using the one that looks less square-ish) should have been a little taller and seated the camera a bit higher. When I mounted the camera bracket to the frame (RMRC Hellbender), the fastening nut prevents smooth rotation of the camera in the mount. This might be fixed by putting the flat pan head under the camera instead of the nut, but I needed a relatively flat bottom surface under the carbon fiber frame because I have a bottom mounted battery.
There are props in view of the HD recording, and there is a bit of latency, but those are things I knew and accepted before I bought this system. All in all a great unique design that if money was no object, I would have one installed in all my quads.

Thanks to GoPro for starting the action cam industry. And a lot more thanks to Runcam for giving us realistic and affordable options. I'm using my cameras for fun on my Axial Yeti xl and I use the my Runcam 3 and 2 for work. I do a little research and development so I get to use the high frame rate to tell how fast some things are.
The only thing I'm waiting for is, I want 4k. I don't need it. But, I'd like it
